Red Queen of Hearts (Rough Draft)

Ok, so as finals week approaches, I'm becoming more and more stressed about my final project for class! The assignment is to pick a character from a play, movie, or book and come up with our own makeup design for the character. This is what I have so far:

If you can't tell, sorry the lighting was really bad, I drew my inspiration for the hair from Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland", then I'm also planning on planting a streak of red crepe hair through the middle of the hairstyle. A big problem I have is, I'm horrible at drawing. I feel like it doesn't look exactly like I want it to, but the more I try to redo it, the worse it gets. So, since I'm also the model, as well as the artist for this design, I'll have to see how it turns out on the actual canvas. I'm quite nervous about the hair. I have very fine/thin blonde hair, and this hairstyle is going to take a TON of backcombing. My instructor did inform us that we could do our hair before the final, but I've got another final that morning, and then work so I don't know how I would manage that. Do you think I could get in done within the hour break I have between work and this final?
I'm also blocking out my eyebrows, which I have done on myself before...I hope it turns out well. I'll be sure to post a picture of the finish project when I'm done with it next week. Maybe I'll find time to practice it this weekend. Cross your fingers!

I'll Make A Man Out of...Myself

Well, I knew it was going to happen eventually...but we finally did beards in class, and we weren't required to bring models, so...I just used myself, heh. Let me tell you, your first beard is NOT going to be pretty (see evidence below). The video we watched on lecture day, which by the way was a video about 30 or 40 years old and the guys demonstrating the proper method for apply wool crepe hair to the face were totally cheesy. It was ridiculous.
I will be honest, I got pretty irritated. All the stringy crepe hair sticking well to my fingers, but not my face like it should have, was quite frustrating. Though my instructor left out little bowls of alcohol to help keep our fingers clean, and acetone for our scissors, there was still crepe sticking to anything and everything I didn't want it to. I had trouble pinning my head hair out of the way well enough, so I got spirit gum in my hair as well...grrr...But the difference between spirit gum and rubber facial latex in that spirit gum comes out of the hair, latex doesn't. Latex just rips your hair out...ouch!

So, after much perseverance and frustration (I even warned the rest of the class to not tick me off any more than I already was), I hurriedly threw on the "easy" part, the mustache. I passed! To make things even better, my instructor emailed the class and said that for those of us that it was our first beard (that would be me) she gave us 5 extra points! Yes!

You can laugh...

Also, my DermaBlemd Cover Creme finally arrived! I've been playing with it for a couple days, and I'm still getting the best application technique down. So I will let you know how that goes, and post about it soon. :)

I also got a new haircut!

Oh! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

New look!

I've decided to give my blog a new makeover! What do you think? Inspiration came from the original idea I had for my blog in the first place, and from wanting a creative, girly, yet sophisticated look. So, like Christmas, except a little more "me". My love for Audrey Hepburn was peeking out as well, so I had to do something.
I've been needing to give my closet the same makeover, it's been awhile since I added a new piece to my wardrobe. I'm REALLY wanting some more blue (as if I don't have enough already), a new sweater or something would be nice. :) I've also been meaning to get a pair of black, patent-leather, pointed-toe heels. Which I had hoped to find in time for my Halloween costume, but believe or not, I couldn't find any at the shoe store! I'd blame it on winter approaching, and it's all about boots right now...

In the meantime, I can always dream. Oh! I FINALLY get paid tomorrow, and I'm planning on purchasing a cover creme from Dermablend. It's a line of makeup products, specifically designed to help cover up various skin discolorations, bruises, and scars. And given an unfortunate with a car, at the beginning of this past summer, I have a few scars on my face I'm struggling to cover up. Granted, they could be a lot worse, but thankfully they're not.
So, once this product arrives, I will play with it for about a week or so, and then I'll be posting photos of the best-loved results, and my own personal review of it, in case any of you want to try it yourselves. Wish me luck!

While you're here, you may want to participate in the poll posted at the top of the blog! :)

Streaking Home in the Dark of Night

Well, it finally happened. I walked all the home from campus without any makeup on, WHAT SO EVER!!! I felt so embarrassed and naked, but I did it.
It so happens that this unfortunate event happened right after my stage makeup class which we had been practicing stylized makeup. In this case, I'd been trying to turn myself into a painting of many colors. Instead of using black or grey for shadow, I was using blues, and greens, and reds and purples. Instead of white for highlight, I was using yellows. On top of that, I drew a star around my eye...and this being practice, well. It didn't turn out like a professional the first time. Me walking home like that? Um...no.
So, after cleaning up my area, and my face, I got my sunglasses out and made my gradual ascent up the stairs from the basement of the HFAC. I knew it was going to be "dark" outside, but I didn't think it was going to be THAT dark. Alas, it was a little too dark to see anything through the comforting shield of my sunglasses. So...I took them off...Ah!!! It was really awkward, and I felt REALLY out of my comfort zone, but I made it home alive.

To bless me for my efforts, I found a Twix bar on my bed with a note, "Thanks for being so very sweet".

The Longer List

I've returned to the longer list today, and it's glorious! I feel so much better walking to campus with a natural-color smoky-eyed look on my face, than with nothing at all! I went with a bubble-gum pink lipstick today. Should I have gone for a crimson red? Yes? No?
When I got out of bed today, my roommate was in the shower so I had to detour, and eat breakfast first. I did cut close on time to get to class, but I made it having done a complete glamour look. :) Though I chose to go more for comfy today with my outfit, and wore my blue jeans and North Carolina Tar-Heels t-shirt. It's the most comfortable t-shirt I've ever worn in my life! Kudos to my aunt Abby for giving it to me! I promise, that if I didn't have such far of a walking distance and didn't have to hike the dreaded stairs on south campus, I would be more classy. Though, I am wearing heeled boots today. :) Yes, at this point in the season, nothing is going to take me away from my boots, even if they have a slight heel to them.

Good news for today! It's actually pretty warm outside, and I barely need my jacket!

I Forgot My Face!

So, this morning I had to go help out the intermediate makeup class on campus, by being a model. That means they get to do my makeup instead of the other way around, and on top of that I got credit for it! Isn't that just the best? Their focus was black and white glamour photos, so they needed to make sure the shades and intensities of the makeup they put on their models would show the intended effects in the shaded effect of the photograph, instead of a usual color lens.
Since it was in the morning, AND my first class was cancelled today (Yay!) I got to sleep in, and I decided the best and most convenient way to do my face for the artist was to NOT do my face! Yikes! So, I just washed my face, moisturized, did my hair, but no makeup! I walked all the way to campus from my apartment without any makeup on! Though, thank goodness that sun was out, I hid underneath the shield of my sunglasses. Phew.
The artist who did my makeup was actually a guy, and he didn't favor to glamour makeup that well, so he did the best he could. He actually did a pretty good job.

What do you think?

Who else (addressing the women here) has a discomfort/totally irrational fear of walking out of their home for the day without doing their face first? I will be honest, I feel totally vulnerable, exposed, and naked without my makeup. Now, of course the clothes on my body must come first, but my face has a wardrobe too. Without it, my brain reminds me that I've neglected to address a very important portion of my routine. If there is not a check next to that on my daily to-do list, I can't walk out the door, but today I broke that on purpose, and rewrote my list for the day. And yes, I am going back to my longer list tomorrow. I figure the extra 20+ minutes is worth it.

Ladies, am I right?
Well, this being my first post you might expect for me to just rant about how much I just TOTALLY LOVE makeup, and maybe I will. You got to start somewhere, right? So, that being said, as I sit here on my bed with my laptop, totally procrastinating the homework I could be doing (yes, you can scold me later), I'm putting it all aside because I really want to start this for you bloggers and blogger-readers. :)
I want to start this blog as a place to put everything I love about, and love to express about makeup. Pictures, brag about products I just bought, tutorials, how my current stage makeup class is going, etc. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it!
